Experience
Eckler’s first actuary in Alberta, Scott joined the firm in 2023 to support a growing roster of clients in the province. He brings over 16 years of experience in the pension consulting field and is a fully qualified actuary. His professional background includes all aspects of defined benefit pension consulting as well as experience with defined contribution plan design and implementation.
Scott has worked with a variety of pension clients across the western Canadian provinces during his career, from very small executive supplemental plans to very large single-employer plans. Before Eckler, he worked for a large global consulting firm, allowing him to also work in Tokyo and São Paulo.
A pension expert with a diverse and broad background, Scott’s consulting assignments range from technical valuation work and programming to plan design for defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans. He also has experience preparing regulatory evidence for rate-regulated utilities, SERP funding and design, employee education, asset transfers, mergers and acquisitions, plan wind-up and annuity purchase, executive disclosures and pension governance. Scott has an in-depth knowledge of pension legislation and regulatory requirements in many jurisdictions along with expertise in various pension accounting standards.

Personal
While in university, Scott was a student-athlete, playing for the football team and training with the track club. After graduating, he competed on the Canadian national bobsled team for one season. When not at work, Scott’s favourite place to be is in the mountains; skiing in the winter (resort and backcountry), hiking and camping in the summer.
