Support of Indigenous students seeking higher education
In keeping with our purpose to care and do right by people, we are proud to do our part on the path to reconciliation. In response to Call to Action #11, we support Indigenous students seeking funding for higher education. Eckler is proud to sponsor the M. David R. Brown Memorial Scholarship in Actuarial Studies at the University of Manitoba, which gives preference to Indigenous applicants.
We also support the Equality of Opportunity Scholarship (EOS) offered by the Actuarial Foundation of Canada (AFC) to “promote diversity in the actuarial, mathematics & statistics, data management, and computer science professions.” The EOS Fund provides scholarships to eligible Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour Canadian students who face financial and societal barriers to attending the university or college program of their choice.
It is our hope that through these scholarships, more Indigenous students will pursue actuarial studies and possibly even a career with Eckler.
Land acknowledgment
Eckler is grateful to acknowledge that our head office is located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. While our head office is in Toronto, now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, we also acknowledge that our other locations across Canada are situated on the traditional lands of many First Nations and Métis peoples.
