Experience
A consulting actuary and Principal with 25 years of consulting experience, Simon joined Eckler in 2013 and currently co-leads our pension actuarial practice. He’s an expert on complex pension issues, advising clients on regulatory matters, restructuring activities, union negotiations, plan design projects, funding and accounting matters.
Before joining Eckler, Simon worked for 15 years at another major consulting firm. Simon’s clients have included a broad array of plan sponsors, including large corporations, public-sector organizations, multi-employer pension plans and not-for-profit organizations.
Simon has been heavily involved in the actuarial profession and has been a regular speaker at actuarial conferences. He is a past Chair of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries’ Committee on Pension Plan Financial Reporting, a member of several Canadian Institute of Actuaries Task Forces and Designated Groups, current Chair of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries’ Pension Practice Committee, and recently completed a term as a member of the Actuarial Standards Board. He is also a member of FSRA’s Stakeholder Advisory Group for Single Employer Pension Plans and of the National Policy Committee of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM). He is a Fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries and holds an H.B.Sc. in Mathematical Statistics and Probability from the University of Toronto.
